There is no better feeling than going out of your way to make someone else’s day better, brighter, or easier. It can be a simple smile in a stranger’s direction, cleaning something up for the next person, or writing a positive note for your roommate to find before they start their classes. The Boo Radley Society lives for these moments in the day, and we strive to go out of our way to make these moments happen. Our inspiration lies in the one and only Boo Radley from To Kill A Mockingbird, who left behind little gifts for the children in a hollowed-out tree.

Some examples of random acts of kindness include a fan favorite High Five Friday, 100 Acts, POP Your Stress, and Finals Candy. To explain, High Five Friday is where we stand on the oval and give students high fives and encouraging words as they pass by. 100 Acts is where we give out a ton of free things in 100 minutes. POP Your Stress is where we hand out suckers with encouraging notes when school becomes overbearing. Finally, Finals Candy is where we pass out miniature pieces of candy during both finals weeks with little notes attached, encouraging students to power through the week.

We also have events specifically for our members and getting to know each other better. There is a meeting every Tuesday night where all our members gather, and at one point during the night we split off into smaller groups. We have tons of recreational activities lined up as well so we can learn more about our members and friends each meeting. Throughout the semester we also have socials for members to gather at if they’d like to get to know others outside of their small groups, which has included a Bob Ross paint along in the past. We also have an AWESOME member retreat!

The Boo Radley Society is an incredible organization in which each member is dedicated to displaying kindness not only to random strangers around campus, but especially to each other. It’s a tight-knit group of people who thrive in the presence of happiness and good vibes. That being said, it’s the perfect organization to join, and luckily our application is open to accept new members for this semester!

If you’re interested in spreading the love around campus, The Boo Radley Society is the organization for you. To join, first you must fill out the application listed under our “Get Involved” tab. If you scroll down to the bottom, click “link to the application”, you can fill it out and then submit it by the deadline, which is Thursday, August 30th, at midnight. Eventually, you will go through our interview process and receive an e-mail letting you know when you’re in!
