Selfless Service is one of Phi Delta Chi’s core values. Service activities are great opportunities to bond with Brothers, get to know the community and make a difference!
What does Xi Chapter do to embody this value?
- Phi Delta Chi’s national philanthropic partner is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They have been partners since 1995, and PDC has raised more than 1.7 million dollars for St. Jude. There is an outpatient pharmacy and oncology recovery suite named after PDC! Xi Chapter contributes to this partnership by holding fundraisers, using Charity Miles, and raising awareness for the organization.
- Our Chapter advisor, Christopher Westrick, is heavily involved in the OSU Wexner Medical Center Healthy Community Day at Ohio State Outpatient Care East. Brothers volunteer alongside him to help patients understand their bloodwork results and answering questions
- for patients about their medication therapy. This is a great opportunity
to help patients understand their health, answer their questions, and to give back to the community. - Xi Chapter partners with Faith Mission, one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus. Brothers help in the pharmacy to dispense medications to patients and counsel them on how to use it. Sometimes, they also step in to help in the kitchen or to hand out ice pops on a very hot day!
- The Brothers of Xi Chapter participate in many other one-off service events, such as the College of Pharmacy Chili Cook-Off, making COSI Science Learning Lunchboxes, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
