Here we’ll answer Q&A you might have. If you still have a question not answered here contact powerinneuroscience@gmail.com!

Q1: What is Power in Neuroscience looking for?

Answer: As the opening page might tell you, we’re looking for students who show initiative, leadership potential, and a drive to make change in the community. That’s our primary focus, incorporate that by telling us about your past experiences or simply what you hope to accomplish in your undergraduate career with the time you have left. Everyone who joins us will be put in a position to lead other people, so by it’s very nature our club is looking for leaders.

Q2: Do I need to be a neuroscience major to join PIN? Do I need to be a science major to join PIN?

Answer: No to both questions. We’re simply looking for people who are interested in our causes, that will be active, and will be dedicated towards supporting the community. While we do deliver neuroscience demonstrations, you don’t necessarily have to be a neuroscience major to be involved in those.

Q3: What is neuroscience? Do I need to be studying it or know anything about it before applying?

Answer: Neuroscience simply put is the study of the brain and nervous system. The answer to the second question is no, only half of our projects are neuroscience-based, and there will be roles which don’t require previous knowledge.  No matter what your major is we’re sure that there are ways you can combine your personal passions with our events to make an impact.

Q4: What are the three or more main events you plan on running 20XX-20XX?

Answer: This gets explained in the application annually, but you can also visit the signature project tab on this webpage.

Q5: How can I join the executive board next year?

Answer: Stay active, make a good impression on the people you mentor, contribute to each our events, look for a future position that best suits you, and apply letting us know what future activities you’re interested in building when running. Already taking steps (which produce results) to create your activities as you’re looking for before you run is also a great way to get more people to vote for you.

Q6: What class rank are you looking for?

Answer: It doesn’t matter, again we’re looking for people interested in our causes. A freshman or a sophomore are equally capable of contributing to any of our events, even if they had just switched into the neuroscience major a month ago.

Q7: What does good involvement look like to PIN?

Answer: Good involvement, as specified before, is being dedicated to the club by showing up and contributing. This is also what allows you to apply for executive board positions. If you miss a certain amount of meetings/events without a strongly valid excuse, you won’t be eligible for those executive board positions, and in worse circumstances removed from our club.

Q8: Why is there a wait list?
Answer: The roles & responsibilities for each of our signature events are limited naturally. That’s what makes a wait list necessary for our club. If you’re early (August-September), fill out the interest form to be prioritized. If you’re seeing this later (September) and the application is already out, go ahead and file it! If you are seeing this even later (October+), email us and visit the club registration tab!

Q9: What type of prior leadership position do I need for PIN?

Answer: While we do look for leadership potential the rank isn’t the tell-all of how valuable your experience was. Whether you were a volunteer at a hospital or conducted your own research in a lab for only summer, both can be great experiences worth shoehorning and you’re just as capable of joining us as long as you’ll be dedicated towards our cause.

Q10: How do your projects work? How can I make one?

Answer: This will make a lot more sense when you are inside the organization! For now, stick with the projects listed in the introduction page. We officially have a tiered-project system that runs from foundational to tertiary. To make one takes gaining experience within our organization and filling out an application.
