Yearly, about 1 in 5 people struggle with a mental health condition. It is important for us as pharmacists to feel equipped to talk to our patients about their mental health and strengthen our own so we can be the best individuals we can be. The Mental Health Initiative seeks to break down barriers and change the way people embrace mental health. Innovative outreach and inclusion of all communities is encouraged in order to serve our underserved communities.

    • 4 “events” per school year
      • At least one in-person event
      • At least one GBM
      • At least one community outreach event
      • At least one surge challenge (can choose from any month)
  • At least one event has to be done in autumn semester to avoid

backlogging

  • Collaborate with Dr. Michelle Maguire at Southeast, Inc. to coordinate and lead topic discussions and flu clinics
  • Provide awareness to the community to reduce stigma associated with mental illness
  • Provide resources to students on where to get help and how to help others
  • Organize REACH Suicide Prevention Trainings for the College of Pharmacy community
  • Communicate with Dr. McAuley and Shawn Levstek, PsyD to continue mental health awareness programming and education within the college of pharmacy
  • Provide educational handouts during Mental Health Month, National Depression Screening Day, and other mental health related awareness days/weeks/months
  • Arrange a patient speaker for a SNPhA General Body Meeting
  • Submit event proposal plans to the vice-president and secretary as soon as the event is planned and finalized so the VP and Secretary can advertise the events
  • Submit event reporting forms to the vice-president and secretary no later than one week after the event has occurred or 2 days before the end of the month, whichever comes first. 
    • 3 pictures MUST be included in the report form the event to count.
  • Attend all monthly chair meetings. If you are unable to attend, you MUST notify the Vice President before the meeting with your excused reason (work does not count as an excused reason).
  • Engage in continued communication with the VP regarding latest happenings with the initiative
  • Must attend 6 out of the 8 General Body Meetings per semester (number of meetings subject to change depending on the semester). If you are unable to attend, you MUST notify the Vice President before the meeting with your excused reason (work does not count as an excused reason).
  • One chair will be designated as the “lead chair” and will act as a liaison between the mental health initiative chairs, Dr. McAuley, Shawn Levstek, and Dr. Michelle Maguire
  • Each initiative has a $50 budget/year for materials/supplies for hosting events. Keep your purchased receipt and show Treasurer to be reimbursed
