What is a cultural fraternity or sorority?
A fraternity or sorority, in it’s essence, is a group of men or women formed by a brotherhood or sisterhood and common goals and aspirations who make a commitment to each other for life. The members that form a fraternity or sorority share their efforts, friendship, and knowledge. Together these members learn, grow, and make the fraternity or sorority, commonly called a Greek organization, stronger. Their common experience builds ties that last a lifetime. A cultural fraternity or sorority is all of this and more. The members in a cultural interest fraternity or sorority come together in the interest of promoting and advocating for specific marginalized groups.
What will a student get out of joining a Greek organization that they won’t get from other groups?
Greek organizations are a great way for students to make an easier transition into college from home, parents and high school friends. For most students, Greek life becomes a home away from home. It becomes a place where close, lifelong friendships are created. Most of these groups emphasize leadership, scholarship, service, and fellowship among other important values.
Do you haze?
Alpha Psi Lambda National Fraternity Inc., is a zero tolerance non-hazing fraternity. We, as a national organization, as well as our individual morals do not condone any form of hazing. Our anti-hazing policy can be found here.
How will Greek life affect grades?
Greek life has an academics-first emphasis, and members can help each other in the academic arena. Some chapters have study sessions, offer incentives based on GPA, doing well on exams, etc. There’s likely to be someone to help in any given academic subject within an organization, where many members have had the same course or even professor. Fraternities and sororities understand that its members are students first.
What are the long-term benefits?
How much are the expenses in terms of joining?
For active members dues are $215 per semester. We also acknowledge that we all have our own financial struggles and burdens, so if there is ever a need we can work something out!
Do we live in a house?
Alpha Psi Lambda National Fraternity, Inc. does not own a house. Everyone has their individual living arrangements.
How can I decide if going Greek is for me?
If you believe that Greek organizations can enhance your educational experience by emphasizing intellectual interpersonal, and social development then Greek Life is for you. All Greek organizations strive for the ideals of lifelong friendship, a sound education, campus and community service, and social interaction. When determining which chapter is for you, look at the motto, mission statement, founding ideals/principles and the philanthropic involvement of the organization.
Are you exclusively a Hispanic/Latinx fraternity/ Do you only accept Hispanic/Latinx individuals?
Alpha Psi Lambda is a Latinx interest fraternity, but we are NOT Latinx exclusive. This means that we promote and advocate for many marginalized groups, specifically the Latinx community; however, we accept members from every ethnicity, as well as treat them equally as every other sibling.

We are always looking for dedicated and caring individuals to join our familia!
- Must be 18 years of age
- Not be a member of any other social fraternity or sorority
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0 (3.5/5.0) (Rounding of GPAs is not permitted)
- Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours
- Must not be a first-term student (note select campuses permit first-term students)
- Transfer and graduate students are permitted that meet the requirements
- Must have a sincere interest in Alpha Psi Lambda
- Must complete the Member Intake Process
