What is the Boo Radley Society?

The Boo Radley Society at Ohio State is a student-run organization committed to doing random acts of kindness. Our purpose is to maintain a positive atmosphere everywhere we go, spread smiles, and perform random acts of kindness while inspiring others to do the same. We strive to make our community a kinder place through various events each semester, from passing out kind notes to engaging in community service activities around Columbus.

What is the history of the Boo Radley Society?

The Boo Radley Society was founded as a student organization at The Ohio State University in the spring of 2012. Our name comes from the novelĀ To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The character Boo Radley continually engages in acts of kindness and compassion throughout the book and is our club’s namesake; however, we areĀ not a book club.

How can I get involved with the Boo Radley Society?

We accept applications from Ohio State students at the beginning of each semester. For more information about becoming a member, please visit our Join Us page. Additionally, we often host open socials and other events throughout the academic year for all Ohio State students to enjoy. For specific dates and times, please join our Friends of Boo newsletter community and follow our Instagram.

What happens once I join?

We require all members to attend our weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 8-9 p.m. At each meeting, you will get to connect with other members through group activities and hear the latest reading of the Scout Scroll. All members must also earn six event credits per semester by participating in kindness activities outside of meetings. We usually host 2-3 events per week at various times. Our Director of Membership Development, Liam, is also here to work with you if you need accommodations or extra assistance in meeting our requirements.
