Members of FIRST® Alumni and Robotics at Ohio State recently partnered with The Antidote Robotics Team (FTC 14320) to develop and construct a powered wheelchair for a family based in Hilliard, Ohio.

The project is heavily based on designs from the Open Wheelchair Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable DIY wheelchairs to children. The Antidote Robotics graciously donated $250 to expedite the design and build process.

Students safely came together on November 7th, 2020, at the Center of Automotive Research on Ohio State’s campus to assemble the wheelchair over the course of the day. Using the design instructions, the students broke up into groups to construct the frame composed of PVC and program the controls of the wheelchair.

If you have a small project that you need assistance with, contact FROS at firstrobotics@osu.edu. We are always happy to assist people in our community.

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international non-profit organization founded in Manchester, NH in 1989 by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers. Their mission is to inspire PreK-12 students to be engaged in science and technology through mentor-based programs.
