This Semester Going Forward

Hello everyone,

As many of you are likely aware, along with the discontinuation of in-person classes, the university has officially cancelled all in-person student organization activities through at least April 20th. As such, we will not have any more club meetings in person this semester.

We are working on ideas for remote activites moving forward, and we will still be holding officer elections as scheduled (just online). On that note, we will still be opening the campaigning channel in the Discord on Monday as planned, so if you’re interested in running for an officer position, please use that channel to say what position(s) you’d like to run for and why you would be a good candidate.

If you’d like to run for an officer position but aren’t currently in the Discord, you can join here.

Please stay safe and take care of yourselves. We’ll send out more updates as things change and we formalize plans going forward.

3/4 Meeting

Hello, everyone!

First of all, some important information: this week, we’ll be meeting in Campbell Hall 309, not the Union, from 7 – 8:30 pm.

Tomorrow, we’ll be kicking off Speaker Month with Scott Swearingen, Assistant Professor of Design at ACCAD. Scott has worked in the video game industry as a game designer, level designer, and environment artist, and has worked on many games, including Dead Space and The Sims! Come for this awesome opportunity to learn about the industry.

Also, next week is Spring Break, so we won’t be meeting. Have fun and enjoy the respite!

2/26 Meeting

Hello, everyone!

Tomorrow, we’ll be meeting once again in the Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room from 7 – 8:30 pm. We’ll be talking about what’s in store for the rest of the semester, including officer elections, Spring Game Jam, and what we’re calling “Speaker Month” in March.

After those announcements, we’ll play some Jackbox (and any other games you might want to bring) and relax a bit during this tumultuous midterm season.

Have a lovely day, and we hope to see you there!

2/19 Meeting

Hello, everyone!

We’ll be meeting again tomorrow from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room. This week, we’re talking all about board and tabletop games, including how elements of them can be (and have already been) incorporated into video games. And don’t worry; we promise we won’t bring Monopoly.

We hope to see you there!

2/12 Meeting

Hello, everyone!

Tomorrow we’ll be back in the Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room from 7 – 8:30 for a blender tutorial! If you’re interested in learning to make 3D models for games (or other purposes, we don’t judge), blender is an awesome free tool to do so.

Please come with the latest version of blender installed on your device to follow along; you can download it here.

See you there!

2/5 Meeting

Hello, everyone!

First of all, something important: tomorrow’s meeting will be  in Campbell 309, not the Union. We’ll still be meeting from 7 – 8:30, just in a different place.

Tomorrow, we’ll be giving you the floor to show off all the cool things you made at Global Game Jam over the weekend! Come to show off what you made and/or see what the weekend spawned.

See you there!

Global Game Jam

Hello, everyone!

Global Game Jam starts tonight at 6:00 in Enarson Classroom Building 222! Join us for a fun weekend of making games, sharing memes, and possibly drawing cows.

We have the room from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday, though again, there is no requirement to be there for the entire time.

See you there!

1/29 Meeting

Hello, everyone!

We’ll be meeting tomorrow once again in The Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room on the second floor of the Ohio Union to talk about Global Game Jam, announce the winners from last week’s concept jam, and talk a little bit about game design via the medium of puzzle games. We hope to see you there!

And speaking of Global Game Jam: it’s this weekend! We’ve reserved Enarson 222 for the weekend, starting at 6:00 pm on Friday and ending at 5:00 pm on Sunday. You don’t have to be there the whole time, and you don’t need any prior game dev experience; game jams are all about learning and having fun (and, hopefully, making a game).

If you want to learn more about GGJ in advance, you can check out their website here. You can also submit your game to the website when you’ve finished it, though you need an account to do so. If you think you might want to submit, you can sign up in advance to save precious game-making time.

Also, if you were there for the last meeting and have yet to vote on the concept jam games, you can do so here. Don’t worry; we’ve turned on the spam filter this time.

Have a lovely day, and see you tomorrow!

1/22 Meeting

Tomorrow, we’ll be meeting once again in the Ohio Staters Inc. Traditions Room in the Ohio Union from 7 – 8:30 pm. We’ll be doing a “Concept Jam”; basically, a game jam but way shorter, where you come up with and flesh out an idea for a game! If you’d like to do some quick concept art, bring your tools and get ready to create. Join us for what will likely be an amusing time.

See you there!

1/15 Meeting

Hello everyone, and welcome back!

Our first meeting for the semester will be tomorrow from 7 – 8:30 pm in the Ohio Staters, Inc. Tradition Room on the second floor of the Ohio Union. This is a new room, and the one we’ll be meeting in for most of this semester, but make sure you pay attention to meeting locations throughout this new year, as they will sometimes change.

With that said, we’re excited to catch up with you all and meet more of you! Come for a brief overview of the club, to meet some new people, and to hear a little bit about the history of games. If you couldn’t make it last semester but can now, we’d be happy to have you tomorrow.

Happy spring semester, and see you tomorrow!
