We’re happy to announce that KHSA dance will be performing at MAASU’s Spring Conference this month! On March 24th, 2018 KHSA will be performing at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Columbus.
We will be performing Raksmey Doung Chan Trea or ‘Moon Love’ dance. This dance represents our ethnic heritage because it demonstrates the gracefulness of traditional Khmer Apsara dancers. Apsara dances represent an indigenous ballet-like performance art of Cambodia. The song for this performance tells a story about the expression of love from one man to a girl in his heart by comparing the girl to the lovely moon.
Unofficial Translation: “Soft Light of Moon”
“The moon has risen with the soft and lovely light to brighten the globe at night time. Everything on earth is comforted by the light of the moon. Moon, do you know? Without you, I really feel sorrow every time and everyday. When I prepare myself for sleeping at mid night, I’m feeling blue and thinking of you, Moon. Whenever I can see you, I turn to feel better, stronger, and hopeful in my life. Moon, you’re very rare and no one else is like you in this world. I wish to see you and be with you forever till the end of my life.”
