Officer Opening: Treasurer Position

Hello all!

Rock Music Club will be fielding applications for our current opening at the treasurer position. This is to fill the position for the 2022-2023 academic year. We will allow the prospective candidates to give a brief speech on their merits before holding a vote at our next meeting on April 7. We will subsequently announce the new treasurer in the following weeks.

If you are interested in this position or simply learning more about it, feel free to contact us on our Instagram (@rockmusicclubosu) or via our email (rockmusicclubosu@gmail.com). We are happy to give more details and give insights into what the position entails. Please let us know if you will be running for the position prior to the meeting on April 7 so we can prepare a list of candidates.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for information regarding our next meeting in the coming days (don’t worry, we’ll be doing something much more fun than just holding a vote). Rock on!

2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees: Who Should Get In?

We have a meeting this week! You know the drill: 5:30 PM this Thursday (March 10) in 335 Campbell Hall. We’ll be discussing (and voting on) the merits of each 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee, as well as just hanging out and decompressing before the much-needed spring break. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Rock on.

PowerPoint Night!

This upcoming Thursday, February 24, we will be having PowerPoint night! This is designed to be a fun and creative way to present some funny ideas to the entire club by putting the power in your hands! The steps to submit your presentations are provided below:

1.) Create a fun, comedic, or interesting slideshow about any music-related subject you want (within appropriate boundaries, of course). Make sure they are only a few minutes in length so everyone can get a chance to share.
2.) share it with rockmusicclubosu@gmail.com (we will review them ahead of time) by Wednesday night. If you are unable to email your slides, please contact us on Instagram (@rockmusicclubosu).
3.) attend the meeting on Thursday at 5:30 PM in 335 Campbell Hall!

We can’t wait to see you there and listen to what you come up with! This is going to be tons of fun. Until then, rock on.

February 10 Meeting Update: Rock Music Club Welcomes Special Musical Guest, Jack Harris

Hello, fellow rockers! We have an important meeting update for Thursday.

In addition to our guest speaker, Alec Wightman, we are also happy to welcome Jack Harris! Jack is a talented singer-songwriter and will be performing a few songs for us. He also just so happens to be a Buckeye! We can’t wait to see you in 335 Campbell Hall on Thursday at 5:30 PM! For more information on tomorrow’s meeting, please see our previous post or visit our Instagram (@rockmusicclubosu).

Until tomorrow, rock on!

Rock Music Club Welcomes Alec Wightman

Rock Music Club is happy to welcome author, senior partner in the national law firm of BakerHostetler, and owner of Zeppelin Productions Alec Wightman as a guest speaker at our next meeting!

On Thursday, February 10 at 5:30 PM, Alec Wightman will be joining us for a conversation on his life in music. From his early days in northeast Ohio with his trusty Webcor record player to his role on the board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Alec has a wealth of experience and knowledge within the realm of rock ‘n roll. He recently published his first book, Music in My Life, which chronicles in exquisite detail the role of music throughout his years. We will be discussing the book, his time with the Rock Hall, the Columbus music scene, and many other items—and of course there will be open Q&A!

We can’t wait to see you in 335 Campbell Hall on February 10 for this fun and informative meeting. Until then, rock on!

2021: Year in Review – Final Meeting of the Semester!

UPDATE: we will be meeting at 5:30 PM on NOVEMBER 18. As you know, we cancelled the meeting last week due to an unforeseen circumstance, but we will be making it up this week! Please check out our Instagram (@rockmusicclubosu) for more information.

Original Post:

Time flies! We have already arrived at our final meeting of the fall 2021 semester. While classes aren’t in session on Thursday, we will still be meeting in 034 Lazenby Hall at 5:30 PM on Thursday (November 11). Given that it’s our final meeting of the semester, we figured we would take a look back at 2021 in music and discuss the artists, albums, and stories that had us talking.

We cannot thank you enough for making our first semester in-person such a tremendous success. Rock Music Club has some interesting things lining up for spring 2022, so keep your eyes peeled for that in the future! As for now, we hope to see you tomorrow.

Rock on!
