Vinyl Night – Halloween Meeting

Be sure to be at 034 Lazenby Hall at 5:30 PM this Thursday (October 28) for vinyl night! Bring your own record and we can do some show-and-tell. And who knows, perhaps we’ll play your record as well! With Halloween coming up, feel free to come in your favorite band shirt. We’ll have candy, as well! This is a stressful time in the semester filled with midterms, so you deserve a chance to relax to some music and chill out for an evening. We hope to see you there!

Rock on and happy Halloween!

Recent Feature in The Lantern

Hello fellow rockers!

Recently, Josie Penderghast of The Lantern wrote an incredible feature on our club. If you would like to check it out, please visit the link provided here. We are incredible grateful to Josie for generously shining a light on our student organization, and we are also thankful for our members, without whom we would not be able to exist in the first place.

We have a meeting this upcoming Thursday (October 28) at 5:30 PM in Lazenby Hall, which we will announce the theme of in the coming days; keep your eyes peeled!

Until then, rock on.

Trivia Night

Hello everyone! Tonight (September 30, 2021) at 5:30 PM in 034 Lazenby Hall, we will be hosting our trivia night. Be sure to bring your thinking caps! We hope to see you there and can’t wait to see who the winner will be.

Rock on!

Hang on the Oval!

Thank you to everyone who came to our first meeting on September 2nd; it was a lot of fun and it was great to meet so many new faces!

Our meeting this week will be one of our most fun ever! We are having a “Hang on the Oval” event on the SOUTHWEST quadrant of the Oval, roughly between Thompson Library and the OSU Faculty Club building. That means we will *not* be in Lazenby 034 unless the weather is poor. This will take place at our normal meeting time of 5:30 PM on Thursday, September 16.

We hope this will be a fun, relaxing way to enjoy the afternoon outside (weather permitting, of course). Bring a blanket, bring snacks, and if you play an instrument (acoustic guitar, tambourine…anything!) then bring that too – we’d love to have some jamming going on! With classes in full swing, everyone could use some fresh air and good music to decompress.

We look forward to seeing everyone there and cannot wait to kick back!

Rock on.

Fall 2021 Programming!

Hello fellow rockers! With the autumn 2021 semester upon us, we could not be more excited to return for our second year of Rock Music Club. The most exciting news to offer for the upcoming semester is that we will be having our meetings in-person!

After two semesters of conducting our meetings via Zoom, it will be an amazing experience to gather in-person and see everyone’s faces. It also will open the door for us to be more creative with regards to our planning and activities. It should be noted that these meetings will be conducted in full compliance with the University’s COVID-19 protocols on masking and social distancing, so please stay up to date at this link, given that safety measures are subject to change at any time.

Our meetings for the fall semester will be every other Thursday at 5:30 PM, just as they were during the 2020-2021 academic year. The classroom space we will be using is Room 034 in Lazenby Hall, located at 1827 Neil Ave (off of the southwest side of the Oval near Thompson Library).

The meeting dates for the semester are as follows:

September 2; September 16; September 30; October 28; and November 11.

We will also be at the Student Involvement Fair on the date of this posting (Sunday, August 22), so if you are interested in joining or would simply like to chat, please stop by! Additionally, our virtual booth (found here) will be open until October 31 if you wish to learn more that way.

As always, our Instagram page (@rockmusicclubosu) is the best way to keep tabs with upcoming events and organization news, so drop a follow if you want to stay engaged!

We can’t wait to see everyone this semester, and the officers have been working on new and exciting ways to keep the spirit of rock n’ roll thriving here at Ohio State. See you on September 2! In the meantime, rock on.

A huge thank you for a great first year!

We’re finally nearing the end of the spring 2021 semester; time flies!  As the summer nears, and with our last meeting behind us, the officers of Rock Music Club wanted to extend a sincere thank you to all of our incredible members for making this first year possible.  Without you and your interest, this club would not exist.

From our very first meeting in the fall of 2020, to our last meetings here in the spring, it has been an incredible journey.  The COVID-19 pandemic limited our abilities, unfortunately, and we understand that the virtual environment of the club, while still fun, left our potential unfulfilled.  It brings us great joy, however, that we made the most of the situation and still had an amazing first few months as a student organization.  Needless to say, as things currently look good for a fall 2021 return to campus, the sky is the limit for what we can do in this club.  While our biweekly discussions this year that focused on a general topic were great, we feel that being in-person next semester will provide us with much more freedom for creative and fun activities.

The core group of members we have are incredible people, and we have been grateful to get to know each one of you over the past few months.  Hopefully our Rock Music Club family can continue to grow as we head into another school year.  The officers have been working on several ideas for next semester and beyond, and we can’t wait to unveil them in the coming months.

We wish everyone luck on their finals and hope that you all enjoy your summer breaks.  Until next semester, rock on!

Movie Madness!

March is here, and with it comes the annual frenzy over college basketball.  To put a rock-oriented spin on this, we have created Movie Madness, a 16-team tournament bracket filled with some your favorite rock- and music-themed films.  We were unable to account for all of the films you suggested in the interest of keeping the field to a reasonable size, so we tried to go with some of the more popular suggestions.

Attached below is the official bracket.

In the coming days, we will be posting each matchup on our Instagram page (@rockmusicclubosu) as a poll, where you will get the chance to vote on which movie advances to the next round.  Whichever movie remains at the end will be crowned the champion, and we will watch that film together in one of our meetings.

We look forward to the outcome this tournament brings and hope that it will be an enjoyable activity for everyone.  We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Rock on.

Spring 2021 Semester – Some Brief Announcements

Hello fellow rockers! We hope everyone had a safe and happy winter break. As the Spring 2021 semester is beginning, our Thursday meetings will soon resume. The first scheduled meeting this semester is planned for January 28 and it will be conducted on Zoom just like last semester’s meetings. The officers and I have been coordinating a variety of fun topics and activities to explore this spring, and we can’t wait to get started again with everyone.

If you know anyone who is interested in joining Rock Music Club, don’t be afraid to direct them towards the upcoming Spring Student Involvement Fair, where we will have a virtual booth for people to learn about our club. A link to learn more can be found here: go.osu.edu/SIF.  The fair will occur on January 21 from 4:00-7:00 PM EST.

Another fun upcoming opportunity is Live Music Mondays, organized by the OUAB. They will be hosting a live performance by Ohio State student musicians every three weeks which will be streamed on their Instagram. If you are a solo musician or part of a band that would like to participate in these events, feel free to use their application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf0o3hid_TegqqQ4A1_qEzAOprMfjW8T_K7ce2glB93Fe32UQ/viewform. The deadline for application is Tuesday, January 19 at 5:00 PM EST, and the first sets of performances will be on January 25 and February 8.

We look forward to seeing everyone again soon and are very excited about what this semester has to offer. If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to us via email.

Rock on!
