With summer approaching, the neutral colors are getting pushed out of the way and bright colors and designs are coming back in. This year, one of the most popular items that will come into style are patterned pants. Patterned pants provide excitement to an outfit and can pair well with any basic tops. patterned or printed pants make the outfit more fun and can also be a conversation starter.
Printed pants have been around for a long time, within luxury brands and cheaper retail stores. With brands such as Versace or Louis Vuitton, their iconic prints paved the way for cool designs on their jeans. I remember being in sixth grade, walking down the hall in my striped Justice pants, feeling so happy after the compliments I’d just received. Justice was definitely the forefront for printed pants in the younger ages but now it has transitioned into a multitude of stores. Children have always showcased patterned pants with their colorful outfits, but pattern pants definitely resurfaced for Gen-Z with gingham or striped pants.
Nowadays, you see patterned pants for every setting. For the professional setting, they have light gridded patterns, for summer outfits they have floral prints, and they even have printed tights to spice up an outfit. The best part is that there are options for every price range. As mentioned earlier, luxury designers have printed pants, but so do many retail stores and even thrift stores too. As a college student myself, prices matter when it comes to purchasing clothes, so finding the right affordable place to buy patterned pants is a good place to start.

One place to get unique, decently priced pants is Princess Polly. Princess Polly seems expensive, but where you really hit the jackpot is in their sale section. I found pants for $25 that are half green, half pink– serving the utmost Cosmo and Wanda vibes. I was also able to snatch some velvet star print flare pants as well, also under $30. Another store to get printed or designed jeans is Adika. Adika always has sales, and I was able to snag some checkered jeans for $20, and they are great quality. Besides these two places, I’ve found Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters to carry some unique and colorful designs on their shelves.
Now you might be wondering what to wear with these types of pants. When in doubt, wear them with a plain top. The pants already add complexity to an outfit, so any black or white top would look great. But for example, if you had floral pants that had some green in them, a green top would also make the outfit pop. Anything that doesn’t clash or take away from the pants will provide a cool outfit.
Patterned Pants will definitely be surfacing all over Instagram and Pinterest, and the shopaholic side of me is ready to buy more. Summer 2021 is about to be everyone’s comeback into society, and I know I’ll be rocking my patterned pants when I step outside.
