About:

Fishie lie detector was started in the spring of 2018 by a neuroscience senior Sidd Tobias as a project in the club D3 (Design, Develop, Deploy). Its goal was to use machine learning in order to counter disinformation on social media. During the 2018 HackAI competition, the prototype team created a basic proof-of-concept demo that won “most impactful hack” at the competition. Currently, the project is on hiatus as most members since then have graduated.

Future team members can expect to fuse media literacy with machine learning in order to tackle the disinformation campaigns that run amok online. The technical applications are obvious, but this project can also use strong writing and rhetorical skills to learn fact-checking techniques and develop resources for netizens in the online battle for disinformation.
