About Us

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” – Hellen Keller

Welcome to The Sciences and Humanities Organization! We are a new student organization that aims to promote the fusion of sciences and humanities throughout both academic and professional settings. If you have questions or would like to get updates and attend meetings, contact our president, Katlyn, at brogan.40@osu.edu.

Mission

Our mission is to build connections never made before. We will act as a networking hub to share resources, expertise, and excitement for interdisciplinary studies as well as actively develop relationships across silos through project learning to build elite interdisciplinary teams.

Activities

Meetings

In addition to routine administration, our weekly meetings usually feature guest speakers that include faculty from OSU on their interdisciplinary research and how to utilize the skills and thought processes of both the sciences and humanities in our own lives.

Currently, we meet on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm in Enerson. Specific details to come by August 15th.

Workshops

We host talent development and ideation workshops to help teams network and start work on projects with real-world impact. We aim to host these workshops on a monthly basis. Additional details to be posted by the middle of August.

Collaborative Workspaces

In addition to in-person activities, we maintain online spaces to allow our members to collaborate and stay engaged. Specifically, we maintain and moderate a Microsoft Team channel for all our members at Microsoft Team Join Link (anyone with an osu.edu email can join).

Advocacy

We advocate for more flexible education paths and talk to employers and educators throughout Columbus to both learn about and encourage ways to use the sciences and humanities together in new and innovative ways. The organization will serve as a resource and advocacy group to promote the use of skills and knowledge taught in both the sciences and humanities.

Team Leads

Team leaders are students who head the individual projects at SHO as product managers. Experienced leaders will benefit greatly from developing solutions with real-world impact while novice leaders will gain experience and have the opportunity for professional development.

Interested members can look at the Projects page in order to see what projects need leadership. There is always more work then there are leaders!

Those who are interested should fill out our interest form!

General Body Members

Come join us! Anyone who comes and joins us at meetings or at our Microsoft Team group will be considered a member. We track and will proudly act as a reference for all our members so that we can help develop your work portfolio.
