October 2021 Workshop: “Crip Strategies for the Academic Job Market”

The Disability Studies Graduate Student Association (DSGSA), Graduate Association of Mental Health Action and Advocacy (GAMHAA), and Disability Studies program are happy to announce “Crip Strategies for the Academic Job Market,” a graduate student workshop with Dr. Travis Chi Wing Lau on Thursday, 10/21, 1-4pm.

Dr. Lau will present in 311 Denney Hall. Audience members may also access the event via Zoom. This hybrid event is free and open to the public.

At this workshop, Dr. Lau will discuss navigating the academic job market process from the perspective of a queer, disabled scholar of color. Drawing on his personal experiences seeking accommodations as a postdoctoral fellow and as a tenure-track junior faculty member of the English department at Kenyon University, Dr. Lau will discuss practice approaches to the higher ed hiring process, as well as “crip frameworks for thinking about academic structures and navigating them as marginalized scholars.”

Dr. Lau’s talk will be followed by a Q+A session. All audience members, in-person and Zoom, are encouraged to bring questions related to their own current or future job searches and accommodation needs.

Whether attending in-person at Denney Hall or via Zoom, please RSVP by Monday, 10/18 using this form. Your registration is helpful to us in ensuring we have properly prepared seating for social distancing.
