RoboSub Competition Standing

Our hard work has paid off! During the 2022 RoboSub Competition at The University of Maryland, we competed against nearly 40 other teams from 11 different countries. Overall, we placed 3rd in Design Documentation! In addition, we received the team superlative “most likely to lend a hand” and gained special recognition for pioneering the data sharing effort. We couldn’t have done this without all of our team members, sponsors, and support from The Ohio State University’s Electrical and Compute Engineering Department!

RoboSub Summary

The following answers are excerpts from team members who attended the competition. Describe your favorite memory from the RoboSub experience.“The first time the torpedo Gauss gun had started working I was stoked. I had been saying for weeks how risky the design was and how it would be hard to get it to work in time. Sure enough, a few hours before our last event, we got it.”“Despite these hang-ups, I truly had an amazing time. One of my favorite memories has to be watching Tempest drag those cinder blocks. What a strong bot we’ve built.”“Accidentally showing up at an NSA facility while driving there…”What did this year’s competition teach you?“Our team is really strong. We might not place the highest, and we might not do the best across the board, However, looking at the accomplishments from this last week have been amazing to see just how many obstacles my team can overcome in such a short time. The team took every challenge with a smile and worked fast to pass it with minimal bandaid solutions all the while taking time to joke and laugh. Any other team couldn’t have done what we did.” “First off – as a team we did a pretty good job of sticking together. Secondly I learned A LOT about the other components of the robot – and what makes it tick. And finally a bit about working under pressure and keeping my cool.”“The importance of networking!”What are the next steps the team has to take?“Take time to focus in on some of the cool projects we have planned. The team saw a lot of really awesome stuff and are excited to integrate. It’s our job to reel them back in to make sure we can accomplish the goals without biting off more than we can chew.”“Replacing and finding a more stable inertial reference system.”
