About the Grad Club

Land Acknowledgement: The Ohio State University occupies the ancestral and contemporary lands of the Shawnee, Potawatomi, Delaware, Miami, Peoria, Seneca, Wyandotte, Ojibwe, and Cherokee peoples. The university resides on land ceded in the 1795 Treaty of Greeneville and the forced removal of tribal nations through the Indian Removal Act of 1830.

The Graduate Student Club was founded to foster a positive and productive School of Earth Sciences (SES) graduate student experience by providing efficient communication between the SES graduate students and the School, establishing independent responsibilities for the SES graduate student body, and encouraging academic, developmental, and social relationships within the SES graduate student body. As a graduate student, there are many ways to get involved, either as a general member or by serving on one of our committees! As an alumnus, SES faculty or staff member, or member of the general public, you can support the Grad Club by participating in fundraisers, collaborating on outreach initiatives, and attending events showcasing graduate student research!

Committees

Social Committee

Plans and communicates about social events in which grad students can take a break from the grind for some fun and fellowship. Past events have included attendance at professional sports games in Columbus, laser tag, and happy hours.

Outreach Committee

Coordinates outreach events (about one per semester) in which members serve the broader community. Past events have included river cleanups, creating and grading Science Olympiad exams, and Earth Day outreach at LandGrant.

The Outreach Committee also raises funds through sales or activities for club use to buy food, outreach supplies, and promotional supplies, and subsidize social event costs. Past fundraisers have included clothing sales, Chipotle fundraisers, and a bake sale.

New and Prospective Student Committee

Coordinates with SES administrators to organize activities for prospective students visiting  campus each spring.

Spring Event Committee

Coordinates with SES administrators to organize an event that takes place after the annual Awards Banquet each spring.
