Inequality is a chronic issue–an issue that affects opportunity, quality of life, and everything in between. Reducing inequalities is truly a matter of life or death, not only for individuals, but also for our planet. While inequality is an expansive issue that will undoubtedly require a multifaceted approach to reduce, OurCor is intended to be a piece of that solution–one that creates a domino effect. Our goal is to provide a platform that is dedicated to pushing back against the unequal distribution of resources through an approach that puts communities first, because we believe that building resilient communities starts with building up the people within them.

OurCor establishes a new platform for mutual aid. Community members are able to interact and help each other through donations. Those who are in need can create posts to describe their situation, and get connected to donors and local community groups who can provide assistance. Those who wish to donate can sort by categories that are important to them, such as LGBTQ+ rights and housing assistance, and view related posts from nearby users. In addition, our app can be used to easily connect users to local community groups to provide support, such as food shelters and healthcare services. We envision our app being used both in emergency situations, such as during a pandemic or after a natural disaster, and in non-emergency situations to help make life easier for each other. This will encourage people to invest in their own communities, and lead to rapid assistance that would take significantly less time than government programs.
