Sigma Phi Lambda (ΣΦΛ) is a Christian sorority that strives to glorify God by providing a source of fellowship for college women who sincerely seek to know His person, His will, and His ways. It is a non-denominational organization of sisters where fellowship with our most high God is fostered by growth in unity with one another, under a sorority-like structure. Through weekly meetings that include worship, encouragement, fellowship, and accountability, Phi Lamb provides an alternative to Panhellenic sororities. Sigma Phi Lambda is not presently, nor will it ever be Panhellenic.
Our Beginning
Sigma Phi Lambda was founded in 1988 at the University of Texas at Austin by a group of women who envisioned a sorority that would provide Christian fellowship on the UT campus. The five founders were Patricia Adams Hogan, Robin Maedgen, Gina Williams Goveas, Jacqueline Goveas, and Eileen Howell Barlow. When the founders and charter members were creating and living “Phi Lamb,” they never dreamed how large the organization would become. Phi Lamb currently has 28 chapters all over the nation and is continually growing.

Ohio State
The Alpha Psi chapter of Phi Lamb was established in 2021 at The Ohio State University. Our chapter is made up of Christ-like, diverse, and accomplished young women, each bringing something unique to our organization. Our chapter has recruitment in both fall and spring semesters for full-time, female students at Ohio State.

Our Purpose
Our primary purpose is to glorify God’s name and make Him great here at Ohio State. We strive to connect all sisters in our chapter with one another throughout the semester with many different events focused on our relationship with one another and Christ. We plan events focused simply on sisterhood and always encourage close relationships between all sisters in our chapter.
While we do root everything we do in Scripture and in Christ, we are not intended to be one’s primary source of the Word. We provide sisters with resources to connect to the Christian community here in Columbus through attending church together, attending Bible studies together, and/or helping each other plug into the many campus ministries we have available. We are here to support our sisters throughout their college years and beyond, both in their personal lives as well as in their walk with Christ.
Statement of Beliefs
Our statement of belief is the Apostles’ Creed, one of the oldest and most unifying statements of faith in the history of the Christian faith:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, in the holy catholic* Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
*The word catholic is used in this context to mean universal.
Chapter Verse
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and one mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
