MRIDULA DIVAKAR 

Position: Co-Founder/President

Year: Senior

Major: Philosophy, Politics, and Economics

Minor(s): History & Theatre

A current sophomore majoring in philosophy, politics, and economics, Mridula is the co-founder and president of Tamil Sangam here at OSU. She was inspired to start this club as they aimed to create a fun and loving environment for all tamilians to express themselves safely. By creating a tight-knit community on campus, they hope to encourage everyone to embrace their love for Tamil culture, and celebrate its richness in the most grand way possible!

Goal for upcoming year: I am determined to ensure that Tamil Sangam is as inclusive as it can be and more people are encouraged to explore their identity in the upcoming year!

 

Sneha Magesh

Position: Co-Founder/Vice President

Year: Junior

Major: Health Sciences (pre-med track)
Minor(s): Biology and Theatre

A current Sophomore majoring in Health sciences on a premed track,Sneha is the cofounder and Vice president of Tamil Sangam at tOSU.Her primary motivation for founding Tamil Sangam was to bring together a community of individuals who share a strong affinity for Tamil and its vibrant heritage.Tamil means more to her than just a language, it is an identity she wishes to embrace along with fellow students. She supposes that through exploring more about one’s culture one can discover more about their purpose and identity.She loves to sing tamil songs and binge watch tamil movies.

Goal for upcoming year: I wish to be able to share with everyone what Tamil culture means to me and how it has contributed to my personality .I would like to be able to do kuthu dance with my fellow Tamils until our legs hurt. I aim to establish an environment where everyone can be their true selves and share why they value Tamil culture.

 

Swathy Shankar

Position: Treasurer

Year: Sophomore

Major: Health Sciences
Minor(s): Biology

Swathy is a current freshman who joined Tamil Sangam at tOSU just so she can chat about Dulquer Salmaan and his car collection (just kidding). On a serious note, she hopes to learn more about the Tamil identity through her peers and to honor the Tamil culture at tOSU!

Goal for upcoming year: My main objective for this upcoming year is to foster friendships with the members at Tamil Sangam and aid in constructing an all-embracing environment for anyone to be able to discover more about their Tamil identity. 

 

Harini Subramanian (she/her)

Position: Logistics Coordinator

Year: Sophomore

Major: Neuroscience

A current sophomore studying Neuroscience on the pre-medical track, Harini is a classical bharatanatyam dancer from Columbus and wants to create a stronger Tamil community within our massive campus! Harini is the Logistics Coordinator for OSU Tamil Sangam. She has been working to understand and incorporate her culture and traditions in her daily life. As a South Indian-American and hopes to be alongside others who all help each other learn more about our identities! She loves to chat about the movies, music, and holidays that are native to Tamil Nadu! 

Goal for upcoming year: I aspire to embrace and further spread the wonderful Tamil culture that has shaped the person I have become to our campus! There are so many aspects of the language, food, and social norms that are delightful and inspiring that I would like to incorporate within the friendships and identities I continue to grow this upcoming year. 

 

 

Divyaa Natarajan

Position: Event Coordinator

Year: Junior

Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering
Minor(s): Robotics and Autonomous Systems

A current Junior majoring in Electrical Computer Engineering, Divyaa is the Event Coordinator of Tamil Sangam at OSU. She was born in Madurai and the most famous thing over there is food and temple, these are the two most favorite things about Tamil Nadu she love and enjoy. She just enjoy going to temples and sitting down there because it is just so peaceful. She have been to many temples in many places in TamilNadu. She love exploring the sculptures and art in the temple. She also watch a lot of Tamil movies and listen to many songs.

Goal for upcoming year: My main objective for this year is to meet more Tamil people and interact with them to know more about Tamil culture and make a safe environment to make everyone feel welcomed. 

 

Ananya Kamalakannan

Position: Event Manager- Aesthetics and Management 

Year: Sophomore

Major: Neuroscience & Political Science (pre-med track)
Minor(s): Medical Humanities

Ananya is a freshman whose entire personality is posting saree pictures on Instagram and being in a serious one sided relationship with Anirudh Ravichander. She’s so excited to sing, dance and party with a tight knit group of Tamilians she hopes to call friends (nanban da!)

Goal for upcoming year: Throughout my 4 years of high school I never had tamil peers to bond with, my main goal for the upcoming year is to continue creating a welcoming community for incoming college students like me to explore and embrace their Tamil identity and learn more about the Tamil culture

Prithi Srinivasan (she/her)

Position: Event Manager – Outreach and Fundraising Management

Year: Sophomore

Major: Biology pre-med track

Straight outta madras, Prithi is a Co-Event Manager for OSU Tamil Sangam. She hopes to make a welcoming space for everyone who wants to celebrate and appreciate Tamil culture. She also hopes to use this space to make fun of Chennai Express over some filter kaapi.

Goal for upcoming year: This upcoming year I hope to be able to help create a comfortable and entertaining space for our lovely Tamil community. Sharing and embracing our culture is important and I hope to do so in a fun way.

 Manasa Subramanian

Position: Creative Director

Year: Junior

Major: Data Analytics

Tamil Sangam to Manasa is like Vadai is to chutney(a bad analogy but she hopes you get the point). Through Tamil Sangam, she hopes to forge connections with people to celebrate and share her identity and culture with everyone.

Goal for upcoming year: My main goal through the organization is to create a safe space to bring together a diverse community of Tamil people to celebrate our culture.  

 

 

Nikhil Mummaneni

Position:Marketing & Development Chair

Year: Final Year

Major: Business: Information Systems
Minor(s): onnu illa 👍🏽

A current sophomore majoring in information systems, Nikhil is the Social Media Coordinator of Tamil Sangam here at OSU. He was inspired to join this club as it aimed to create a fun and loving environment for all tamilians to express themselves safely.
