Gold:

Asian American Studies (AAS) is an interdisciplinary and comparative field that explores the histories, cultures, and experiences of people of Asian descent in the United States. As an integral component of the Center for Ethnic Studies, the program focuses on the diversity of Asian American communities and cultural practices; develops intersectional approaches to the study of identity, power, and resistance; and considers a range of issues-such as immigration, citizenship, globalization, and imperialism-central to a critical understanding of our contemporary world.

The East Asian Studies Center serves as a hub for East Asia-related programming, information, and events.

Now in its fifth decade, EASC coordinates East Asian Studies research, instruction, and outreach. EASC supports teaching, extra-curricular activities, study abroad, and research initiatives of faculty, students, and visitors to OSU and is the home of the interdisciplinary East Asian Studies M.A. program. EASC organizes scholarly and public events in collaboration with colleges, universities, schools, and civic groups in Ohio, the Midwest, and the nation, and shares OSU’s substantial faculty expertise with the educational, cultural, governmental, and business communities in the region.

EASC promotes the introduction of new courses and degree programs, continued improvement in access technology for the library’s on-line collections, and constant expansion of the library’s collection.

EASC’s affiliated Institute for Chinese Studies, Institute for Japanese Studies, and Institute for Korean Studies further implement the goals of broadening and deepening knowledge of East Asia on campus and throughout the community, the region, and the nation.

The Center for Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (CLLC) supports the understanding that learning one or more languages and the cultures they represent is essential for working in our 21st-century interconnected world because it powerfully and uniquely contributes to Intercultural Competence: the ability to communicate and act appropriately across cultures, and work with people from different backgrounds at home or abroad.
One of our missions is to “promote Taiwanese culture and assist Taiwan in becoming a normalized country on the international stage.” Based in the United States, the Taiwanese American Association is working towards creating a better society for Taiwanese Americans, and we continue to advance on the path of “defending Taiwanese democracy and freedom, and establishing Taiwan as a normal, independent country.”
