Here’s a Little About Us

What is It Takes A Village?

Our parent organization It Takes A Village (ITAV), formerly Village Book Builders, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to helping end the cycle of poverty for children around the world through education. ITAV sets up libraries in low-income regions of foreign countries to achieve this goal as a first step to create a space dedicated to learning. We then encourage education through online mentoring to connect children to brighter futures and give children hope through books. Watch this video, or visit the official It Takes A Village website to find out more about the organization.

What does it mean to be part of Village Mentors at The Ohio State University?

We are a student organization supporting ITAV’s goal to end the cycle of poverty through education through online tutoring and mentorship. Our students mentor at the Kadzakalowa, Malawi library built in 2019. We meet online with our mentees every week and host mentoring sessions to further our mentees’ educational growth and give them new opportunities to learn.

ITAV’s Mission? To help end the cycle of poverty for children around the world through education

We also strive to increase our mentee’s opportunities in more ways than just mentoring. We work on service projects throughout the year and raise money to send our mentees’ school supplies. Some of our members went on a trip to the library at Kadzakalowa in December 2022 and brought science experiments, games, and other activities to share with our mentees.
