IRB Application Tips

If it’s your first time writing an IRB application, or if you’re having issues with multiple incomplete responses, here are some tips!

  • Check out the Research Resources Page on Carmen. As a graduate student, you should have been added to this Carmen page. There are a ton of helpful resources there, including
    • language for specific sample populations, e.g., C-REP, MTurk/Cloud Research, Dynata
    • a video of Professor Jesse Fox (who is on the IRB) explaining each section of the application
  • Ask your advisor, or another graduate student doing research similar to yours, to download and share a copy of an approved application from a previous study. This can provide some examples for language to use or boxes to check.
  • If you are getting a lot of incomplete responses or generally don’t know how to resolve an issue with your submission, you can contact the IRB directly.
    • In the Study History part of your study’s IRB submission page, you can click on the person who reviewed your application/amendment and send them an email.
    • You can also contact the ORRP main office line at (614) 688-8457
