10/21 Meeting: Narrative

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed our talk with Greg last week! This week’s meeting is today, Wednesday, 10/21, 7 PM to 8:30 PM EST. We’ll be talking about the use of narratives in games. There’s a lot of content to cover, including types of narratives, character arcs, player choice, and etcetera, so we hope that this discussion will inspire you to flesh out some narratives in your own games!

Just a reminder – the shirt design contest is coming to a close! The due date is next week, 10/28, on the day of the following meeting. Please have your submission in before noon that day so that we have time to prepare your design for presentation. You can submit your design here! We will be voting on the winning design on the day’s meeting.

See you there!

Fall 2020 Announcements

Hello everyone!

With another semester about to start, so is another year of Game Creation Club. We are extremely excited to see everyone soon, but before we do we have some important announcements for this year.

Like many other student orgs, this semester we will be virtual. Weekly meetings will be held in our Discord server starting September 2nd. This will be a learning process for everyone as we adapt our regular meetings to the virtual setting so we’d love to hear feedback from you all throughout this semester. We want to continue to foster the community environment we’ve had in previous years, despite everything being online.

If you have not joined the Discord server already, you can join using this link.
With the emphasis of everything being virtual, we are also revamping the Discord server! There will now be bots for you all to use so you can set your Discord tags based on your interests (Coder, Artist, Musician, etc). We will also be creating new “Specialist” roles that members will be able to apply to. These specialists will be the go-to people to ask when members have questions, similar in function to a study tutor. There will be a variety of specialists for different subjects such as Unity, Blender, and more. We’ll talk more in-depth about this role, and how members can apply during our meetings.

Our first meeting will be held September 2nd, but we’ll also be at the Virtual Involvement Fair that’ll be held August 23rd. Make sure you stay tuned to more announcements by joining our mailing list and Discord.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

This Semester Going Forward

Hello everyone,

As many of you are likely aware, along with the discontinuation of in-person classes, the university has officially cancelled all in-person student organization activities through at least April 20th. As such, we will not have any more club meetings in person this semester.

We are working on ideas for remote activites moving forward, and we will still be holding officer elections as scheduled (just online). On that note, we will still be opening the campaigning channel in the Discord on Monday as planned, so if you’re interested in running for an officer position, please use that channel to say what position(s) you’d like to run for and why you would be a good candidate.

If you’d like to run for an officer position but aren’t currently in the Discord, you can join here.

Please stay safe and take care of yourselves. We’ll send out more updates as things change and we formalize plans going forward.
