EUROPE—Earlier this week several governors, including the governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder, known Wolverine fan, said that their state would not accept any Syrian refugees unless the Federal Government increased screening measures. We asked several of the refugees about their thoughts on the matter and everyone agreed, almost unanimously, that they do not mind. One of the refugees, who wished to remain anonymous, responded: “Most of the culture that we understand of the United States comes from the television we watch. Since we are about 7 hours ahead of the U.S., we always watch their noon college American football games. Many of us are huge fans of Ohio State and know the anthem ‘We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Michigan.’ We reached the conclusion that if nobody in America wants to live in Michigan, then we don’t either.”

The refugees expressed deep disappointment when they were told that Ohio would not be accepting any refugees. They had dreams and aspirations of raising their children in Ohio and watching their children go to The Ohio State University. Sadly, they will most likely never see their dreams come to fruition unless you petition your governor, state representatives, and senators to accept the refugees so that nobody will have to go to Michigan.
