Lyrics:
Looking at it now
It all seems so simple
We were lying on your couch
I remember
Translation:
Taylor remembers a certain time when she and another person (supposedly a significant other, but it could be any number of people, such as a family member, or Al Gore) were lying on a couch. It was simple because they were just lying on a couch.
Lyric:
You took a Polaroid of us
Translation:
Al Gore took a polaroid, which is a type of photo where the camera prints the photo immediately after the photo is taken, just to show you how ugly you look right now.
Lyrics:
Then discovered (then discovered)
The rest of the world was black and white
But we were in screaming color
And I remember thinking…
Translation:
Looking at the polaroid, Taylor discovered there must be something wrong with the camera, as it is printing some things in color and some only in white. She thinks about this.
Lyrics:
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods?
Translation:
Taylor is confused about her location.
Lyrics:
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
In the clear yet?
Translation:
Taylor is still confused about her location
Lyrics:
Good
Translation:
Good.
Lyrics:
Looking at it now
Last December (last December)
We were built to fall apart
Then fall back together (back together)
Translation:
Taylor has no concept of physics or architecture.
Lyrics:
Your necklace hanging from my neck
The night we couldn’t quite forget
When we decided (we decided)
To move the furniture so we could dance
Translation:
Taylor can’t forget this one night where she and Al Gore moved their furniture so they could dance, because I’m sure Taylor has a tiny little apartment where there is only ONE room that they could possibly dance in. Not like she has another room or possible a balcony where they could dance without moving furniture. Also, what kind of complex dance routines are she and Al Gore doing that they have to move her furniture? Isn’t Al Gore a little old to be moving furniture?
Lyrics:
Baby, like we stood a chance
Two paper airplanes flying, flying, flying
And I remember thinkin’
Translation:
Taylor doesn’t think this relationship has a chance but she decides to race paper airplanes with Al Gore anyway.
Lyrics:
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods?
Translation:
Taylor, just get a map!!
Lyrics:
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
In the clear yet?
Translation:
We’ve been looking at this all wrong. Taylor is visually impaired and can’t see. Al Gore, please get Taylor some lenses.
Lyrics:
Good.
Translation:
Good.
