THE OVAL, COLUMBUS — Following a large snowfall on Sunday, several campus social media accounts began marketing an annual tradition – the yearly snowball fight to occur later that evening. However, another less-known campus institution, the Ohio State Civil War Reenactment Society, confused the large attendance of the event as a new record not seen since the Battle of Gettysburg.
“We were just so shocked that thousands of students have such a passive love for civil war history,” said Augustus Beauregard, who’s great great grandfather was certainly on a side in the civil war.
Advertised on their blog, the annual War of North Campus Aggression was scheduled to take place this past Sunday evening over three months ago, with only three students sending in an RSVP. However, Beauregard, and the other two members were shocked to see over one thousand students attend.
“They must have heard about it on a more modern platform, like Facebook.”
The Sundial caught up with the re-enactors after the snowball fight, as they shared a single bowl of cream of wheat at Sloopy’s. Basking in the glory of the battle, the President was continuously thanking passersby for coming to the meeting and
attempted to give out a QR code for the GroupMe. No one scanned, but this did not deter them.
In addition, students participated in the annual snowball fight on the oval. Known by south campus residents as “The War of North Campus Aggression,” members of the Ohio State Civil War Reenactment Society, confused the buzz for the
snowball fight with excitement about their reenactment.
Beauregard added that any of the hundreds of students who attended the reenactment, once they complete the rigourous application process, are welcome to join them on their biweekly meetings on Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 AM sharp, far on West Campus.
