Our mission
The mission of Power in Neuroscience is to drive lasting positive change within high school student communities with disabilities, from lower-income backgrounds, or underserved areas in Columbus (and in broader locations) through impactful and annual service and neuroscience projects.
Our values
*Freedom with direction.* We want to be giving support and opportunity to the community, especially for students with disabilities, students from low-income backgrounds, and students who are underprivileged. Our direction provides us an opportunity to be creative and find impactful ways to support other people. Once that work is finally accomplished we’re also capable of passing it down in a direction that lets the next leaders of PIN take it up and raise our causes even higher. This is how we accomplish meaningful work and are capable of giving back to the community long term.
*Tradition to serve.* Our signature events are tradition to run annually to the best of our capabilities. It is our goal as an organization to uphold signature events now and into the future. We do this originally through helping students with our current three signature events. In the distant future this list may in fact grow, however serving others in the community to the best of our capabilities will always be our most foundational and traditional quality.
*Progress and Innovation* We must be consistently aiming to improve our traditional signature events and taking feedback from the communities we work with to learn what else can be done to go even deeper with our programs. Specific requirements for signature events are outlined in our constitution, but as a basis to outline on here we do not do one-time events unless they’re a trial for signature events. Every project PIN commits to must be built from the students within the club, have a long-term purpose in the community that matches our themes, and be capable of being passed down. That is how we keep progressing and innovating ourselves.
*Socializing and Fun* While we are a program at OSU serious about the work that we do, we also value spending time together to relax, destress, and have fun. Our main focus will always be to grow as leaders, make an impact, and serve the community, and that cause will only bring us closer together. If you want to celebrate something special with our cohort, just let the exec board know. Just don’t vote one of them in Among Us, they may hold a grudge! It’s also lots of fun to be creative, invent new ideas, challenge ourselves, and find ways to positively impact others lives – that’s everything our club is about.
** Power in YOUR initiative ** We are open to the continued development of already existing signature events and alternatives to the way we run them. All of which for the purpose of taking the current class of students we work with that year (with our direction in mind) and giving them a positive & impactful experience, a commitment we must make every year of leadership with no exceptions. Feel free to express your initiative at our events with the roles you take by going above and beyond or add on new ideas to the signature events we already run to further make them impactful. We’ll lift you up and give power to your initiative.
