Last week, OSU students settled in to the third week of classes under the wicked September heat. The free coffee and gift bags from Oval church groups were gratuitous and the risk of catching some sort of disease was high. Classes were in full swing, public places were crowded, and there was joy and wonder all around.
That is, until the 12:45 section of Intro to Veterinary Law let out in Campbell 100 on Wednesday. In a rush to try the new and not improved mirror lake 3-tender combo, sophomore Jenifer Adler accidentally stepped on the toe of BimBim, a golden retriever mix training to become an emotional support dog, as they made their way out of the row. At 2:06 pm EST, BimBim yelped in response to what has now been called the stomp heard ‘round the world.
The OSU community has not taken this misstep lightly. Adler, who was apprehended upon beginning their descent down all 1400 steps leading into Campbell, made several pleas for forgiveness over Instagram stories before appearing at the first meeting of OSU Mock Trial as a defendant.
Adler’s classmates-turned-witnesses shared that the defendant had tried to pet BimBim before class begin, violating the number one rule of interacting with a dog that has a job. BimBim herself made an appearance, showing off a paw that looked okay. She was unable to comment, but her sullen brown eyes said everything. The jury, which included four 4paws handlers and several people with water bottles that had stickers with some variation of the word “doggo” on them, ruled nearly unanimously to enact the death penalty.
Adler is set to be pushed down the stairs of Campbell hall on September 23, just weeks after the crime took place.
“All this for some unseasoned chicken,” Adler said. The university has made no effort to nullify this ruling as of now.
