Call for Papers

Abstract submission for the Future Directions of Music Cognition conference will close on December 20, 2019 at 11:59pm.

***Update: Abstract decisions were sent out via email on February 19, 2020.***

Although the conference is centered on five central themes (corpus studies, emotion, pedagogy, rhythm & meter, and timbre), presentations & posters from any area of music cognition will be considered.

We are pleased to announce that we will be publishing proceedings articles from the conference. We will also be awarding prizes for the best student presentations! 


Abstract Requirements

Title

Subject Area

Select one of the following categories:

  • Corpus Studies
  • Emotion
  • Pedagogy
  • Rhythm & Meter
  • Timbre
  • Other area of music cognition (please describe in 1-5 words)

Body of Text 

  • Word count must not exceed 250 words (excluding references)
  • Describe the motivation, methodology, results, and implications
  • Empirical studies & theoretical considerations are welcome
  • Structured or unstructured abstracts are welcome

Review Process

Each submitted abstract will be peer-reviewed by 3-5 of your colleagues. Please make sure to select one of the above subject areas, as that is how reviewers will be matched. The review process will be double-blind, so the reviewers will only see the title and abstract.
