Instructions for Authors

If you were originally accepted to present your submission as either a poster or talk to Future Directions, you will be able to participate in the virtual format in a variety of ways. You may also choose to withdraw your submission.

For every accepted presenter, regardless of format (poster or talk), you are invited to participate in the following three ways. You may choose one, two, or all three of the following options, depending on what is best for you. However, if you want to participate in Option #3 (real-time presentation), you must also participate in Option #1, #2, or both #1-2.

1. Proceedings article, due February 1, 2021

2. Video presentation to be archived indefinitely

All videos can be submitted to our public Future Directions of Music Cognition — March Conference OSF page here

In order to submit your video, please follow these instructions:

  1. Send an email to FD2021Conf-talk@osf.io from the email account you would like used on the OSF
  2. The format of the email should be as follows:
    • Subject –> Presentation title
    • Message body –> Presentation abstract (if any)
    • Attachment –> Your presentation file as either a PowerPoint or PDF format; the video format will likely be too large to email
  3. Once sent, OSF will email you a confirmation with a permanent identifier that others can use to cite your work
  4. After you receive this email, you can visit that URL directly and make changes to the page, such as adding your video file
    • Please upload your presentation video as an MP4 or HTML5 file format to the website (either the 5-minute poster or 12-minute talk video)
    • Please do not use MOV, WMV, or AVI formats because they tend to be large file sizes.
  5. You can make changes by:
    • Logging into your OSF account
    • Clicking the link that was emailed to you from OSF after you submitted

For the original May 2020 conference, abstract submissions were accepted as either posters or talks. In the current March 6 & 7, 2021 conference, we’ve modified the formats to best adapt to a virtual conference format.

  • Posters –> Lightning presentation videos (5 min.)
  • Talks –> Presentation videos (12 min. talk, with an additional 5 min. for questions)

If you were originally accepted as a POSTER:

  • Due Feb. 1: Confirm your participation as a 5-min LIGHTNING TALK here
  • Due March 1: Submit pre-recorded lightning talk to our OSF (we’ll send instructions by Feb. 14, 2021)

Conference attendees can watch these lightning talk videos before or during the poster session. Attendees will also be able to connect with the presenters over Slack.

The format of the video is flexible, as long it does not exceed 5 minutes in duration. You may use a series of slides, talk freely, or have a traditional poster in the video background as you talk.

If you were originally accepted as a TALK:

  • Due Feb. 1: Confirm your participation as a 12-min PRESENTATION here
  • Option 1 — Due March 1: Submit pre-recorded talk to our OSF (we’ll send instructions by Feb. 14, 2021)
    • This video will be played over Zoom during your presentation slot
    • Questions will be live
  • Option 2 — During Conference: Give talk live (and have it recorded live over Zoom)
    • The video will be submitted to our OSF page after the conference
    • Questions will be live

The format of the video is flexible, as long it does not exceed 12 minutes in duration.

3. Participation (part of the schedule) in the March 6-7 conference.
