Following the success of YouTube’s first ever fashion show, Creators in Fashion, The Ohio State University has taken inspiration from the event and adopted a new mascot to represent the institution.
For the first time in the University’s history, the school’s beloved Brutus Buckeye, will be replaced by Shopify’s nightmare fuel of a mascot: Shoppy.
When contacted by the University Administration, who were on the hunt to spend student tuition dollars on even more useless items, Shopify happily obliged to give their nightmare fuel over to Ohio State for free.
Being a life-sized, humanoid shopping bag ripped from the mind of some underpaid man with a marketing degree, Shoppy is what the University believes will best represent the next generation of students more than a nut.
While Shoppy may not be the same as our beloved Brutus, this lovable walking Shopify ad shares some common features with Ohio’s favorite nut, such as bumping his fists and a deadpan stare of someone with a master plan unbeknownst to others.
Upon being approached by the Sundial for comment, Shoppy didn’t say anything. However, he did shake his handles and give us a thumbs up, hopefully in a positive way and not in a way meaning that he’s planning on overthrowing Ohio State.
“I’m glad that Ohio State is getting to experience Shoppy.” Kai Nehrenz, the social media manager behind Creators in Fashion told the Sundial. “The shopping bag tends to get a little quirky at night.”
Shoppy is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ohio State vs. Akron game on Saturday, August 31, 2024. In addition to his appearance, Ohio Stadium will be handing out Shopify coupons to all patrons, and TBDBITL will be changing the lyrics of ‘Hang on Sloopy’ to ‘Hang on Shoppy’ to honor Ohio State’s newest addition to the Shopify family.
