Looking for something to kick off your spooky season? Look no further than Keanu Reeves’ performance with his band on October 3rd. Traveling from one corn field to the next, the band intends to perform in Columbus at Newport Music Hall, expecting at least 50 students to attend.
Despite being known as a private person who rarely does interviews, the sundial was invited to speak with the bassist himself, Keanu Reeves, who expressed his excitement. “I’m looking forward to the warm welcome from the OSU students! I’ve seen the way they line up for Newport, so I’m hoping there’s a big crowd.”
Upon asking when he specifically saw the “line for Newport”, and after brief descriptions of those in line, we soon realized he actually saw the line for Midway. We couldn’t tell him that though, lest he pull out shades and a blue capsule… so instead, we’ll support the delusion!
When asked how it felt to be out of the acting sphere and on the road touring with his band mates of Dogwood, Reeves replied, “who? OH! You mean the two guys on stage with me!” It appears that this slip up happens often, though. As the lead vocalist (name unknown) greeted him while walking by, Keanu kindly apologized, claiming he was busy in an interview and “couldn’t stop to take pictures with a fan at the moment.”
Of course, the band name was something we were curious about. Dogshit isn’t something you’d normally consider for a band if you’re a well-known celebrity, but we digress. The subject was mentioned, however, and Reeves seemed baffled, as that “wasn’t the name of the band”. Apparently, it’s actually Dogstar. We were told that “people mistake the name all the time” despite Reeves exclaiming that it’s “unique and memorable.” Unlike the music the band produces. Again, we went along with it – we can’t just tell John Wick that his music sucks.
Overall, Reeves was incredibly kind while we spoke and didn’t go into any deep, philosophical conversation regarding the meaning of life and how grief shapes us, which was kind of surprising. Just don’t bring up the 2000 thriller, The Watcher, and you’ll be good! When we finished the interview, he was as humble as we assumed and personally invited those in the sundial to attend the show with backstage passes included. He only needed to provide us with one ticket and pass, admittedly, but the thought was still there.
(The ticket will probably be given away, so let us know if you’re interested!)
