Talk Title: Investigation of the hippocampus in physiological and pathological aging using multi-contrast and multi-modal imaging techniques

Abstract: The relationship between the hippocampus and aging has not been fully and clearly characterized using standard or more advanced MRI techniques. Of importance, the definition of hippocampal anatomy has been inconsistent, both at the level of the whole hippocampus and its subfields, and it has been studied with diverse MRI contrasts and resolutions, leading to conflicting results in the field even in cognitively healthy individuals. Further, very few studies have used data-driven approaches or quantitative MRI techniques to better characterize the hippocampal underlying microstructural tissue changes (such as myelin or iron content). In this presentation, I will talk about how we used multimodal imaging techniques and multivariate analyses to improve our understanding of the impact of aging and Alzheimer’s disease progression on the hippocampus.
