MED CAMPUS – Ohio State freshmen are reportedly having more trouble than usual navigating campus this year. New students are losing hours of their day to waiting in line for campus dining. By the time they’re done eating, there’s little time to learn how to get anywhere else.

One student, Evan Ephrine, had a particularly tough time after adventuring to the Ohio Union to try Sloopy’s Peanut Butter Pancakes.

“I didn’t think the pancakes would actually have peanut butter,” stated Ephrine. “Like how the Buckeye Bar at Thompson doesn’t sell alcohol.”

After his throat started closing up, Ephrine quickly left the Union and was relieved to find a CABS bus that could help him at the stop outside. He’d learned at orientation that Ohio State provided a free bus service on and around campus, but didn’t know anything about the routes available.

“Ambulances are so expensive, and I was excited to see OSU compensated for this by providing a free ‘ER’ bus to Wexner.”

Unfortunately, the bus quickly headed onto High Street and subsequently east of campus. By the time the bus turned onto Hudson from 4th, Ephrine, with no directional knowledge of the area and a throat that was quickly closing, thought it’d probably be easier if he just walked from there and got off the bus.

Thankfully, following a 45 minute walk/crawl to Wexner Medical Center, Evan Ephrine was treated for his allergic reaction and made a swift recovery.

We ended up tracking down the anonymous driver who’d been assigned the East Residential route that day. However, he was unaware that an emergency had even happened on his bus.

“The kid rushed on without saying a word and I didn’t think anything of it–Most of the students ignore me when they get on. Sure, he was out of breath and clawing at his throat. I’d just assumed it was from running so he wouldn’t miss the bus.”

We also reached out to his Mom for a comment, but didn’t receive a reply. Currently, the only statement she’s made on the matter is in the OSU Class of 2028 Parent Facebook Group:

“Anyone know why my son can’t pay for his ER visit with BuckID cash? Is this something he can have his RA fix? Would love to know if any of your kids are having the same issue!”
