The Oval. Sure, it’s a nice place to relax with friends on a warm sunny day, but besides that what’s the point of it? Right now it’s just a large piece of wasted space in what is easily the most accessible and conveniently-located part of campus. This prime location should be put to good use; i.e. the land should be sold to the highest bidder, who – let’s face it – is most likely to be Walmart.

To be honest, it would be awesome if there was a Walmart Supercenter on campus. They would provide a variety of products at competitive prices, as well as access to ancillary services that students desperately need; like a pharmacy, optometry clinic, and more. I, for one, am tired of having all the university dining options close at 8pm, whereas Walmart would still be open late into the night. And the economic benefits would be profound. Building a Walmart on the Oval would not only generate a ton of tax revenue for both the city and university, but it would create plenty of good-paying jobs for Ohio State students.

Building a Walmart Supercenter on the Oval (and a corresponding 600-car parking lot on the South Oval) really would be the best thing for our university. I’m planning on staging a peaceful pro-Walmart rally later this week (on the Oval, fittingly enough), and I invite you all to join me.
