Summer in America is a time for relaxing and having fun. It’s been like that since nearly the time this country was founded, and it’s become a tradition unlike any other. From barbecues to fireworks, parades and festivals, Americans love to enjoy their time outdoors during a time when schools are traditionally on summer break and families have more opportunity to spend together.

The early summer has become iconic to American pride and rightfully so. As the country has progressed toward a truly unique and free society, people have become much more open about how much they love their country. They dress up in American flag attire, put flags all over their cars and houses, and even spray paint their lawns and animals red, white, and blue. There are whole festivals, parades, and even weeks long celebrations with fireworks and other displays. It’s a truly unique display of pride unmatched anywhere else in the world.

Lately however, Americans have become engrossed in how much they love their country. At this point they are practically shoving their pride down our throats with all these flag displays, parades, and their own sort-of need to tell us all how much they love America. It doesn’t just stop at everyday people. You see companies drape their offices, commercials, and social media profiles with American flags in gross displays of virtue signaling and pandering to consumers. We all know that when the holiday is over, they’re just going to take it all down anyway.

This all sends a terrible message to children as well. Kids simply don’t have the ability to discern the darkest moments of American history from is best moments. This country was formed on the bloodshed of many different people from all walks of life and children absolutely should not be exposed to that.

In the end I think it’s great that we have the freedom to express who we are and what we value. So long as I don’t see it, hear it, know about it, or think about it.
